Musical Arts

The Musical Arts minor is designed to give students an understanding and appreciation of the intellectual, social, and spiritual values of music in the individual's cultural life.

Program Highlights

The Musical Arts Minor provides varied studies of music within a strong liberal arts curriculum. Students will nurture their creativity and build artistic foundations through the study of theory, composition, history, literature, and performances.

The music program also welcomes all majors to participate in the program's performing ensembles, to study an instrument or voice in group or private study, to learn and study music through the program.

Program Learning Outcomes

Music minors will demonstrate:

  1. Fundamental proficiency in music theory, aural skills and formal structure of diverse styles.
  2. Understanding of general music history and familiarity in different musical styles, genres and performance practices in celebration of diverse and distinctive cultures.
  3. Functional performance skills that exhibit appropriate technical proficiency and effective artistic expression in students’ chosen performance mediums.
  4. Ability to engage in cooperative and inclusive learning, and creative expression through ensemble studies and performances

Career Paths

The Musical Arts Minor complements all majors with educational emphasis in creativity and artistic expression, and the graduates have gone on to careers in medicine, science, business, arts management, advertising, and teaching, among others.
 

Additional Admissions and Aid Information

Music Minor Scholarship
Music Minor Scholarships of $2,000/year, $8,000/total are available to selected students who are pursuing Music Minors.

Limited number of Ensemble Scholarships of $700/semester are available to students who take two ensembles in the same semester.

La Vida »¨¶ùÖ±²¥

La Vida »¨¶ùÖ±²¥ is a program for all students, increasing educational access and connection to support services, enabling degree completion and post-graduation success. Particularly, La Vida is centering experiences of students from Latinx and other historically underserved backgrounds.
