ֱ to Celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day with Speakers, Songs, Culture
ֱ University of California will celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day on October 14 in partnership with the Coast Miwok Tribal Council of Marin, The Marin Indian Alliance, the Cultural Conservancy, the Miwok Archeological Preserve of Marin, and the Museum of the American Indian.
“Join us to celebrate the rich culture of indigeneity while learning about the work of Marin’s indigenous community organizations to heal, revitalize, and continue the traditions of the lands’ first peoples,” says Louis Knecht, university archivist and reference and instruction librarian.
The program begins at 5 p.m. on the lawn outside Angelico Hall with a ribbon cutting ceremony for Coast Miwok signage indicating the unceded land ֱ occupies.
The program then continues from 5:30-7 p.m. on the Anne Hathaway ֱn. The evening includes:
5:30 p.m. Welcome and Unole women’s drum
5:40 p.m. Coast Miwok speakers, songs, culture
6:20 p.m. Words from community organizations
6:40 p.m. Unole women’s drum
7:00 p.m. Closing prayer
