The Board of Advisors provides advice, guidance, and assessment of the BSB鈥檚 strategic initiatives. In addition, the Board supports the implementation of BSB initiatives as appropriate, with regards to working with current students, alumni, corporate recruiters, and other external stakeholders.
Board Members
Multicultural and multilingual, Marcia Barahona, founder of ExecBloom.com and OrangeRio.com, is a visionary business leader and executive coach known for her marketing prowess and success in mainstream market reach and product localization projects across the US and Latin America. She has positively impacted companies in various industries, including HealthTech, MobileTech, EdTech, Consumer Electronics, and Solar Power.
In addition to her business acumen, Marcia boasts a decade-long career in bilingual community media, where she was a radio and TV host and a print journalist.
As an executive coach, she mentors professionals in the private, public, and nonprofit sectors. She is also an executive education lecturer and a guest presenter on communications, marketing, and cross-cultural topics.
She holds an MBA from the Andrew P. Barowsky School of Business at the 花儿直播 University of California, where she also earned her bachelor's degree. Marcia's passion for sustainability drove her to business school in Poitiers, France, completing a certificate in Sustainable Business Management and Development from 脡cole Sup茅rieure de Commerce et de Management (ESCEM), now known as Excelia.
Hugh Cadden is a senior consultant for OnPoint Analytics and an expert witness in derivative trading matters. He has been specializing in the organization, operation, and regulation of financial and trading markets for over 40 years. Mr. Cadden has had extensive government, professional, and private sector experience in matters relating to futures, options, forwards, and swaps trading and markets. Mr. Cadden also serves as an Advisory Board member to Compliance.ai, a fintech start-up applying artificial intelligence to curating and monitoring regulation.
After a career in management, with Procter and Gamble and smaller firms, John Caple came to 花儿直播 to start the business department. That was 1977, with the first class taught that spring, and in 1979 he started the 花儿直播 at Oxford program. He taught at 花儿直播 for ten years and delivered the commencement address in 1986.
After leaving 花儿直播 he was a strategic consultant, leader of a CEO group, and speaker on vision and mission before CEO groups in the US and abroad. He reconnected with 花儿直播 in 2005 as lead volunteer on the Field of Dreams, which became the John F. Allen Athletic Complex. He served on the 花儿直播 Board of Trustees from 2008 to 2011.
John earned a BA in Economics from Stanford (where he also played basketball), an MBA from Harvard, and a PhD from Golden Gate University with a thesis on The Executive Soul. He has written 14 books including Finding The Hat That Fits: How To Turn Your Heart鈥檚 Desire Into Your Life鈥檚 Work, published by Penguin. John and his wife Anne-Marie live in San Rafael.
Keith Chamberlin, MD, MBA, is an anesthesiologist in Greenbrae, California and is affiliated with multiple hospitals in the area, including Marin General Hospital and Sonoma Valley Hospital. After earning his MD from Georgetown University, Dr. Chamberlin completed helicopter flight school, an internship, residency and cardiac anesthesia fellowship in the US Army, with assignments at Letterman Army Medical Center in San Francisco, as well as Stanford and UCSF. He went on to obtain an MBA in 2010 from Auburn University Alabama. With a demonstrated history of working in the hospital and health care industry for more than 20 years, he works as CEO of Prima Medical Group and Chamberlin Health Care Consulting Group, Inc.
Rob Chase is the Founder and President of NewGen Surgical, Inc. a surgical products company that is focused on creating sustainably designed plant-based and biodegradable alternatives to single-use plastic. A Marin native Rob attended 花儿直播 and received an MBA in strategic leadership in 1999 and a certificate in sustainability in 2011. After two decades working for some of the largest surgical products companies such as Johnson & Johnson (Ethicon Endo-Surgery), Computer Motion (acquired by Intuitive Surgical), and others, and inspired by his education at 花儿直播 he turned his capstone project into what is now the leading company offering low carbon and sustainable single-use products for the healthcare industry.
Namho Chung is the President of Keiretsu forum (K4) Korea chapter headquartered in San Francisco and is the Venture Partner of Hatcher+ based in Singapore. He has helped over 14 companies raise over $3.5 million dollars both in South Korea and the United States since he opened the 47th Keiretsu Forum Chapter in Seoul, South Korea in 2017. His wide range of international networks allows him to generate unique relationships between investors and startup companies. Previously, he led seed, series A and B funding and managed a US entity as SVP of Finance at Lutronic Inc., and he played a major role to lead publically listed in KOSDAQ. He has abundant experience in financial and commercial real estate investment industries over 30 years after earning an MBA degree in International Business Management from the Business School in Sung-Kyun-Kwan University.
Kevin is the Vice President and portfolio manager at Dodge & Cox. He also is a Board Chair for the Bridge the Gap College Prep, and a board member for United Way of the Bay area and Boys and Girls Clubs of San Francisco.
Portfolio manager working with institutional clients since 1989. Previous experience as Securities Analyst in Oil-Gas Sector, and experienced analyst in Banking, Consumer, Finance, Auto and Chemicals industries.
A retired multilingual executive and entrepreneur with expertise in SaaS, Software, Real Estate and Automotive, Thomas has founded two SaaS companies, was on the founding executive teams of two companies, and has served as Divisional President and VP of public software companies over his 25 year career in technology. AdvantageTec (a texting SaaS company) was acquired by LivePerson (NYSE: LPSN) in October 2018. vAuto (an inventory management and pricing SaaS company) was acquired by Cox Enterprises (Autotrader) in September 2010. Marketdrive Interactive (a service CRM SaaS company) was acquired by Classified Ventures / Cars.com (Nasdaq: CARS) in May 2000.
Thomas started his career as an automotive technician working for Dr. Ing h.c. F. Porsche AG in Stuttgart Germany.
Zachary is the Founder and Managing Partner of Marin Sonoma Impact Ventures. His professional experience spans from Wall Street to Washington, DC to Silicon Valley to putting down firm roots in the North Bay. In April 2020, he launched Marin Sonoma Impact Ventures (MSIV), a movement reshaping the North Bay startup ecosystem to help local entrepreneurs build the next great North Bay company and seed the next generation of prosperity for the Marin and Sonoma community.
Previously, Zach served on the executive team as Head of People & Corporate Operations at SmithRx. Prior to SmithRx, Zach was Head of Business Development at Mill Valley鈥檚 Glassdoor, and served tech-icon Cisco in San Jose building partnerships with the global public sector and advising the company鈥檚 senior executives on public policy matters.
Zach also worked in fixed income sales at Citi鈥檚 New York City trading floor, co-founded video opinion startup company eyeponti, and has a wide range of political experience that includes the U.S. Senate, The White House, and the late Senator John McCain鈥檚 2008 campaign for U.S. President.
Before joining the Barowsky School of Business as Dean, Dr. Lee served as Interim Dean, St. Mary鈥檚 College School of Economics and Business Administration and faculty member since 1998, where he taught and worked with faculty/staff to develop more than a half-dozen degree and certificate programs, and was responsible for its five graduate business programs in the university鈥檚 initial AACSB accreditation in 2013 and re-accreditation process in 2018.
Dean Lee has taught at several universities and has consulted with global companies including Walt Disney, McKesson, Roche, Abbott Medical Optics, Varian, OASIS International, Transcept, and Lucky Stores.
Clinton is the President and Chief Business Strategist of Sonoma Technology. He coordinates and leads complex field studies using highly sophisticated instrumentation to characterize meteorological and chemical properties and processes in challenging environments.
His expertise and experience include meteorological and air quality analysis; air quality forecasting; boundary-layer meteorological measurements; designing and managing field programs; and data validation and analysis.
In addition to publishing his research results in numerous meteorological and air quality journals, Clinton co-authored the U.S. EPA鈥檚 guidance document regarding the development of an air quality forecasting program as well as many formal reports on air quality transport and dispersion.
He also serves on the Application Advisory Group for Sonoma Technology鈥檚 participation in the Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA).
Banking professional with nearly three decades experience in senior management with Mechanics Bank, Wells Fargo, Civic Bank of Commerce, and, Bank of America. He has served on the board of the Okizu Foundation.
Cynthia Murray is President/CEO of North Bay Leadership Council (NBLC). She serves on the boards of many organizations including the Bay Area Council Economic Institute, Metropolitan Transportation Commission鈥檚 Policy Advisory Council, Sonoma County Health Action Council, Sonoma County Business & Ag Consortium, Sonoma County Employers Housing Council, Marin School to Careers Partnership and the California Business Preschool Advisory Council. Murray chairs the Marin County Housing Crisis Action Group and is a strong advocate for new housing.
She received the 2010 Women in Business award from the North Bay Business Journal for her achievements in economic development. North Bay Children鈥檚 Center made her their Champion for Children in 2017. And in 2019, she was the San Rafael Chamber of Commerce鈥檚 Woman of Industry. Prior to becoming CEO at NBLC, she served eight years on the Marin County Board of Supervisors and seven years on the Novato City Council, including one term as Mayor.
Ms. Murray is a graduate of Rutgers University, spent 20 years in sales and marketing, and is an adjunct professor at Sonoma State University.
Susan Schultz is an Executive Coach and Consultant for Schultz Leadership Consulting. She previously worked as the Vice President of Business Operations at the Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy, a nonprofit start-up with the audacity to try to cure cancer. Prior to joining the Parker Institute, Susan spent 25 years supporting the University of California at the San Francisco and Los Angeles campuses in management roles; most recently (from 2008 to 2016), as the Associate Dean of Administration and Finance in UCSF鈥檚 School of Dentistry. Her contributions at UCSF were recognized with the Chancellor鈥檚 Award for Exceptional University Management.
A skilled mediator and facilitator, Susan frequently speaks on the topics of management, leadership, organizational culture, and employee development. In Fall 2018, she addressed senior UCSB Communication students as a featured speaker at UCSB Comm Connect. In Winter 2019, Susan was a guest lecturer at 花儿直播 University in the MBA 5400 course: Organizational Behavior and Executive Communication.
In addition to serving on the Board of Advisors for 花儿直播 University鈥檚 Barowsky School of Business, Susan鈥檚 previous board experience includes the UCSF Dental Center Advisory Board and the Board of Directors of Sunflower Wellness, a nonprofit organization that empowers people living with cancer to find strength and support through exercise.
Susan holds a BA in Communications from UC Santa Barbara and an MBA with a concentration in strategic leadership from 花儿直播 University of California.
Shams has more than 30 years of experience in telecommunications and networking technologies in a wide range of roles including executive sales leadership, business growth/development, global custom-solutions creation/delivery, strategic relationship-building with internal and external partners, managing complex custom contracts, and building of diverse, high-performing teams. His team served Fortune 100 companies, SLED entities such as States of California and Texas and Sports and Entertainment venues, deploying the latest custom managed networking, telecommunications, and visual technologies.
Shams holds a BA degree in Mathematics from 花儿直播 University of California, MS in Industrial Engineering and a PhD in Systems and Industrial Engineering with a minor in Electrical and Computer Engineering from University of Arizona in Tucson.
Leonard is a business and marketing consultant and has a rich history in developing, marketing, and managing successful business, nonprofit and civic partnerships along with economic and workforce development programs.
During his decade with the San Rafael Chamber of Commerce, he recruited more than 1,000 new members and generated over $500,000 in revenue for which he was honored for his results and outstanding service.
With the Small Business Development Center, he directed various marketing activities and managed a two-county youth entrepreneurial program that exceeded its goal by more than 700 percent.
At Enterprise for High School Students, a San Francisco youth employment agency, Leonard created a new department spearheading their partnerships with the business sector with such organizations as Merrill Lynch, the San Francisco Giants, REI, Deloitte & Touche, and the San Francisco Business Times. During his tenure, Enterprise was nationally honored by the United States Department of Labor.
With the United Way of the Bay Area, Leonard raised more than $821,000. He received two awards for his dedication, vision and was recommended for a CEO position at the national headquarters.
Leonard has been a guest speaker before more than 1,400 attendees, appeared on radio shows, and has raised almost 2 million dollars for various worthwhile civic endeavors.
Some of his sports and entertainment achievements include marketing and public relations for two Summer Olympic Games, the Rose Bowl Parade and Game, working with the Oakland Raiders, fundraisers featuring Ray Charles, and managing entertainment for Pope John Paul II. Leonard also designed a sports marketing course which he taught to an international audience at UC Berkeley.
Shawna is a business administration major with a concentration in global business. She currently interns for the Marin Small Business Development Center and plans to get her MBA after graduation. Shawna believes that in order to grow, you have to step out of your comfort zone.
